We've been making the most of the warm weather before the rain and cold begin tomorrow.
Over the weekend Michael and I took the tarp off the top of one of the chicken coops because of the high wind that was forecasted. But, since the ducks are getting bigger and taking over so much space in the little chicks pen, I wanted them to be in this coop during the day. So Monday morning I strung string all over the top of the coop to keep any hawks out so the ducks would be safe. The ducks loved the freedom! The kids have been bringing them "salads" and they just gobble them up! I also began introducing some of the chicks to the other coop as well. The rooster in this coop is very protective and a bit grouchy about newcomers so I want to start now introducing him to his new flock. He seemed okay with them, although I kept them in a small pen inside the coop until I'm sure. I'll have them spend some time in there every day for awhile until I know that he's ready to accept them.
I have no idea what the big conversation was here, or why they were having it on the ground, but it looked important!
We found slugs and spiders on the undersides of blocks, carrots that spent the winter in the garden, and someone took a nap in her favorite spot - outside in the stroller.
And there were epic dinosaur battles!
The radishes and lettuce that we planted last week are beginning to sprout. And there are wild violets springing up in the yard.
Stroller rides, digging in the dirt, and feeding the baby - these were all parts of our fun outside today.
Math with Michael - it's important to begin learning early!
