Thursday - Keys and Kids

Inspiration
Every good and perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
James 1:17

Reading and Learning

Every blessing begins with God, and for us to obtain His blessings, we must perceive, receive, and possess them first in the spirit realm.  We must turn from our personal agendas, concerns, and selfish desires and worship Him in spirit and in truth in everything we think, say and do.  By this we are choosing to connect with the eternal God, not the temporal world.  We are literally plugging ourselves into His eternal thoughts and ways, causing us to conduct ourselves according to His will.

Workbook time!

And game time - Jocelyn chose Dominoes today.

In the Kitchen

Elijah and Jocelyn helped me make the pasta for lunch today. We talked about measurements, food groups, and how the spices smell. And we talked about the importance of not licking the spoon we're using to stir in the ingredients. After all the pasta and cheese and spices were mixed together we rewarded ourselves with a bit of cheese for each of us because who can resist the goodness of cheese!

In Other News

A little over two weeks ago, on a Wednesday evening, I ran a few errands. I went to the post office and then to the dollar store and picked up a few things. After that evening I couldn't find my van keys anywhere. And I didn't have a spare. Michael and I looked and looked and looked. I emptied my purse several times. I went through the trash, completely rebagging it. I looked in the couches, under the couches, behind the couches, several times. I looked in the refrigerator, the freezer, and the kitchen cupboards. We checked everywhere we could think of in the van, under the van, on top of the van and beside the van. Parents of the daycare kids checked their children's rooms. The keys seemed to have vanished into thin air. I called a locksmith and didn't get an answer or a call back. So I emailed a second locksmith and he replied promptly but didn't have an opening in his schedule until yesterday. And it would cost $470.00. My friend and I laughed and said the lost keys would surely show up on Thursday, the day after the locksmith came and I broke the bank paying for the new keys. Yesterday the locksmith came out and did whatever it is that locksmiths do. He made a set of keys that would lock and unlock the doors but when he tried to program them to start the van, the program wouldn't run. He tried several different things but nothing worked. So he said he would look into other options today. This morning I talked to the Honda dealer's service center and they said they could make a key but I would have to have the van towed to them so they could do it. I decided to wait to hear back from the locksmith but didn't hear anything all day. This afternoon I sat down on one of our couches and put up the foot rest. Michael looked at me and said "Did you hear that? It sounded like keys." I had looked in, under and behind this couch so many times that I didn't even take it very seriously but made a mental note to check when I got up. Just in case. But I forgot. I finished what I was doing and then went and ate dinner. Then I remembered what Michael had said and decided to go look. You know, just in case. And, much to my surprise, when I put the foot rest back up and looked under the couch, there were my keys! So, the keys did, indeed show up on Thursday, the day after the locksmith came. However, because the program wouldn't run to make workable key, I didn't break the bank paying for them.

And the next time Michael tells me he hears something I'll take him a little more seriously.

On My Mind
Today I'm thanking God for the blessing of the lost and found keys. I'm thankful the the feeling of peace I had (nearly) the whole time the keys were lost. I'm thankful that once again, in His own time, He took care of what I needed. I'm even thankful for the extra time I had at home and all the things I was able to catch up here during that time. God truly does care and is the giver of blessings, both spiritual and physical.

Quote of the Day
Through faith in the Lord Jesus alone can we obtain forgiveness of our sins, and be at peace with God; but, believing in Jesus, we become, through this very faith, the children of God; have God as our Father, and may come to Him for all the temporal and spiritual blessings which we need.
