Beautiful moth I found on an early morning walk!
Inspiration
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139:13-16
Reading and Learning
p. 140-141
Michael learned some more today about how the body works. He enjoyed these worksheets labeling various components of the respiratory and circulatory systems. He did not enjoy the math worksheet as much, but . . . some things just have to be done.
Our letter of the day was Ll. L is for lamb. We talked about the wool that lambs grow and how they get "haircuts" and then the wool is used to make clothing. Then we counted the bags of wool from each lamb and circled the correct number.
Outside Fun
We took the chicks outside today for the first time. After the initial confusion at their strange surroundings they settled in to doing the things chickens do best - scratching and pecking happily at everything around them.
I added a few toys to our outdoor collection today and the kids were excited to play with them. And the baby is always happy to play ball!
In the Kitchen
We had sausage gravy on fried potatoes and toast for breakfast this morning. And for lunch we had Italian chicken, sweet potatoes with butter and brown sugar, mac and cheese, and peas.
Homemaking
Homemaking surely in reality is the most important work in the world. What do ships, railways, mines, cars, government, etc. exist for except that people may be fed, warmed and safe in their own homes? . . . The homemaker's job is one for which all others exist.
~ C. S. Lewis
Homemaking has always been a struggle for me. While I understand it's importance and value (or at I thought I did), so many other things seemed important and valuable as well and finding balance was a challenge. Recently while sweeping the kitchen floor, again, I caught myself thinking about how mundane and seemingly valueless this task was. And suddenly I thought of how Jesus used the example of a woman sweeping her floor to illustrate an important point in one His parables. And it was ask if He said to me "There are no valueless and mundane jobs in My Kingdom." So I've embraced the task and privilege of homemaking with a new sense of purpose. And I've begun to celebrate the little things that go into making a house a home - the sweeping, and the dusting, and the picking up, and the laundry, and the organizing and rearranging. And yes, I included a photo of a folded load of laundry because laundry is one those homemaking jobs that will be there every single day!
