Reading and Learning
Today the preschoolers continued with the Spring theme. We learned that the word flower begins with the letter F and practiced tracing both upper and lower case letters. We also followed directions to color flowers in our number books the correct color. And we played a game of Spring themed dominoes.
Michael and I took his schoolwork to the front porch this evening.
Below is an excerpt from today's reading in this book. I needed that reminder to focus on the way ahead, not what is behind me.
"You may not thank me for this," said the teacher.
"For what?" I asked.
"For what you're about to do . . . which is to walk across this plain . . . backward."
I complied, trying my best not fall as I made my way backward through the plain . . . but it was not far before I found myself lying on my back, having tripped over one of the many small bushes that dotted the landscape.
"OK," he said. "I think it will be enough . . . We were all created with eyes to face the direction in which we walk. So we walk in the direction in which we look. And where we look, we walk . . .
Therefore, look to that which is heavenly. Dwell on what is pure, high, and of God. Focus on what is good. Cease dwelling on what is not . . . and on that which has nothing to do with your heavenly calling. You'll end up where you are to go, when you look . . where you're going."

Outdoor Fun
The weather today was absolutely gorgeous! I had some flower shaped cardboard cutouts for the kids to paint while we were outside. So we started our morning outside fun off with those. And they discovered the dandelions are seeding out and spent a lot of time picking them and making wished before they blew all the seeds off.
In the Kitchen
For breakfast this morning we had sausage, grits, apple slices and orange juice. For lunch I made cheeseburger macaroni, broccoli and cheese, and cantaloupe. We had enough leftovers from lunch that Michael and I just ate those for dinner.

As he usually does on Monday afternoons, Michael went to help out at the Food Pantry for several hours. This is such a highlight in his week for him. He's lost so many of his outside activities, so I'm glad he has this opportunity.

On My Mind
I've been thinking a lot about wisdom the last few days. I read a chapter from Proverbs nearly every morning, corresponding with the date. So today, for example, I read Proverbs 6. Proverbs was largely written by wisest man on earth, is so packed with wisdom and speaks so much about the importance of gaining wisdom and using it correctly, in a way that honors God. Also, Matthew 10:16 tells us to be "wise as serpents and gentle as doves." I've also wondered how this applies in light of our current situation with COVID-19. Here is some of what I have felt it means for me personally. This list of verses is by no means comprehensive (and is listed in no particular order) but gives me a start on ways to live wisely.
It is wise to respect those in authority over us -
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

It is wise to look out for those who cannot look out for themselves -
Speak up and judge fairly,
defend the rights of the poor and needy.
~ Proverbs 31:9
It is wise to remember the power given to us by Jesus -
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
