Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
Lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
Value 1: I live freely, joyfully and creatively; flourishing as I follow God's leading, knowing that He can always be trusted.
God has been so faithful in showing me how much He can be trusted. One of the most freeing realizations was that He is truly for me and not against me. Knowing this in my head and really, truly understanding this in my heart have been two different things. And I have to say the second is wonderful! There are several key elements to understanding this truth.
1. God is God - With all His attributes that make Him God - He is Love, Omnipresent, Omniscient, Holy, Sovereign, Truth, Just, Eternal, Wise . . . just to name a few. And since He is all these things, how can I not trust Him? If He were only Omnipresent (everywhere at once) and Omniscient (all knowing), but not love, trust would be very difficult. If He were only Love but not truth, trust would be impossible. If He were everything else, but not eternal, how could I place my future in His hands. But, since He is God, and He has all the attributes He has, I know I can trust Him.
2. Since God is God, and I am not, it only makes sense to follow His leading. No matter where I find myself, no matter what lies behind or ahead of me, only by following His leading will I find the life He created me to live. And it is in the life He created me to live that I find fulfillment, because it was what I was created for. It is a mysterious and wonderful thing to know that even when I have messed up in ways that look unredeemable to me, He, with all His Godly attributes, can continue to make my life a beautiful and wonderful story, to bring glory to Him.
3. He (Jesus) wants us to know that if we'll live our lives in and with His love (and His help), we'll be fulfilled in ways we couldn't even imagine. ~ Pastor John Snyder
There are so many attributes that God has, and yet the one that continues to amaze me, and allows me to trust Him is His love. He created me because He desires a relationship with me. He didn't have to create me. He didn't have to give me life. He didn't have to provide a way for me to live in relationship with Him forever. But He did. He wanted me! And honestly, that blows my little human mind!
4. So . . . all of this means that I can live freely and joyfully, and allow Him to work creatively through me, looking to Him to lead me, because I know created me because He wanted a me to love and have a relationship with, and He wants only the best for me. And it is the same for each person on earth. He wants us, He loves us, He is our biggest fan, so to speak. And if the God of the universe and everything beyond feels this way about me, how can I not live freely and joyfully, and flourish in His love?
