I have been privileged to be a part of an online Bible study based on the book Set Apart: Holy Habits of Prophets and Kings by Jessica LaGrone. This week we are looking at Elijah and Elisha. And today we focused on the importance of mentoring - both being the mentor and the mentoree (I'm not sure mentoree is actually a word but . . . you get the idea.) The author points out that the Bible is full of examples of mentoring relationships - Moses and Jethro, Eli and Samuel, Mordecai and Esther, Paul and Timothy, Jesus and His disciples. To this I would also add Naomi and Ruth. I found this study interesting because this has been a topic that has been on my mind a lot recently. In a course I am taking by Kain Ramsey, he points out that to be a mentor, one does not have to have everything figured out, or to be perfect. One simply has to be a step or two further along the road than the one being mentored. And, I would say, our mentors do not have to be perfect either, simply a step or two further along the road as well. 2 Timothy 2:2 gives a description of mentoring so that others can mentor as well - "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others." Jessica LaGrone refers to this as "the mentor sandwich." Each of us needs both to be mentored and to mentor others. Proverbs 9:9 says "Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning."
I'm amazed at how much these kids have learned in the last few months since we began working in workbooks regularly. We usually spend about 20 minutes each morning working in them and they really enjoy it.
Orbees and art kept us busy this morning.
Outside we visited the chickens, ran hard and soaked up the sunshine. While the kids played, Michael and I did some clean up in the yard and loaded up the van to take some things to dumpsters. After the kids left we took the trash to the dump. It was nice to be able to get outside and do some work in the yard and let the kids have fun playing.
Look what I found! These pretty little blue flowers. Spring truly is coming.
It's been a long time since I made Salisbury steak, so today I decided to make it for lunch for a change. The kids loved it!
I'm content tonight. It's been an awesome day and I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
