Letting Go of Expectations and Enjoying the Journey

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

~ Isaiah 55:8-9

Many times I have found myself praying about a situation or circumstance, knowing that God is listening and will take care of it, only to find myself frustrated when things don't go the way I expected or wanted. I am learning that truly trusting Him means that I give things to Him and then remove my expectations about how He will handle them. Because, so many times, while I am focused on one possible answer, He moves in a different way. If I'm not careful, I will miss what He is doing because I am so focused on what I think He should be doing. And His way of doing things is always so much better than anything I could have imagined!

In today's post I'm including some pictures here from last week. I seem to do well at posting things either here or on Facebook the beginning of the week and then slacking. I'm hoping this week I do better. But today I am playing catch up.

My poor chickens have had a rough winter and I lost three of my hens and three of my roosters to dogs. I think we finally have the dog situation under control and my remaining chickens are thriving again. My one hen looked sad and depressed, and half naked from having her feathers pulled out for a long time, but she has now recovered and Thursday we discovered she is laying eggs again. In the top left picture I thought I was going to take a picture of Elijah showing Jocelyn the precious first egg of spring. Instead he suddenly decided he wanted to play with the dump truck and practically threw the egg at Jocelyn who, thankfully, caught it and proceeded to admire with gentle amazement it deserved! In the bottom three pictures the Carson and Aaron are admiring the rooster. This rooster tried hard to protect his flock from the dogs and is still very cautious about any perceived threats, so he makes himself very big and obvious whenever the kids come to look at the chickens.

This is just a collection of pictures from Wednesday through Friday. Workbooks, water beads, an ocean themed sensory bin, just hanging out together, and a sheet pan meal of broccoli, cauliflower and sausage made up some of our awesome little moments.

Today has been a busy Monday.

As always, we worked in our workbooks.

Watching the pictures of birds come out of the printer was so much fun! This week, and probably for the next couple of weeks, we're learning about birds. These pictures went in our art center to color.

Puzzles, dry erase markers on the easel, bird pictures in the art center, and a dry rice and bean sensory bin were our inside activities today.

It was a beautiful sunshiny day and we played hard outside. According to the weather forecast we have a beautiful week coming up so there should be lots and lots of outdoor fun.

Michael was busy today with basketball, and volunteering at the food pantry. Amanda had the day off and spent the majority of it cleaning and reorganizing her room. Now her room looks so amazing it puts the rest of the house to shame.

So, maybe I'll get some extra organizing and cleaning done tomorrow if I can make myself come inside.
