Slowpoke Snail - Preschool Theme

This cute little book full of pretty pictures of pond animals and birds was a fun book to base a week long preschool theme on.

In this short simple book we learn why the snail does not have to be in a hurry. Even though the birds, fish, and frogs move quickly to try to eat the snail, the snail can simply hide in his shell and not worry about running away.

CRAFTS

This cute little snail was simple to put together but allowed us to practice color recognition, letter S recognition and sound, and fine motor skills as the pieces were placed on the paper in proper place with the proper orientation.

This craft allowed us to practice the same skills as the snail craft plus number recognition, counting and adding.

We found this fish triangle shape craft here.

This fun and simple TP roll snail craft provided K with a companion for the day. And we got to review some colors and the triangle shape.

Life cycle crafts are one of my favorites and K seemed to really enjoy this frog life cycle. It provides such a nice visual for learning.

GAMES

Our games for this theme were very simple. The beginning letters of the animals in this book were B, F, and S. So on different days I hid different letters in rice so they could be found and matched to letter board. This sensory experience is always enjoyed and also gives us a chance to hold the letter, talk about the name of the letter and the sound it makes, talk about the colors, and practice matching.

VIDEOS

We enjoy watching a few videos with our themes and these are the ones we watched with this theme.
