Wednesday - Creepy Crawly Critters, Time, and Feelings

Inspiration
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12

Reading and Learning

Everything you want to accomplish in life requires an investment of your time, so when you want to improve your results, you must face the fact that your supply of time is completely inelastic - and perishable.

The reality is that if you are not purposeful about how you spend your time, then you leave your results to chance. While it's true that we control our actions not our outcomes, are results are created by our actions. In stand to reason that the actions that we choose to take throughout our day ultimately determine our destiny."

Some things Michael studying are the French revolution, Godly sadness that brings joy (2 Corinthians 7), and the muscular and nervous systems, as well as his math and reading lessons.

This morning the preschoolers practiced writing the letter Yy, we played Bingo and Memory Match games, and enjoyed some drawing on our new Etch a Sketch.

After outside time, while waiting for lunch, they enjoyed free play - building with blocks, dramatic play, and See & Spell.

Outdoor Fun

We found some cool friends while we were outside this morning - a ladybug and a froghopper (we always called these spit bugs when I was growing up). I've always been intrigued by these little green bugs that make themselves a home out of their own spit. This house of spit serves several purposes - temperature control, protection from predators, and it also keeps the little bugs from drying out. So gross and so fascinating at the same time.

And, while Michael was doing some cleaning up in the back yard he found four slugs. Slugs were a source of endless fascination last year, and it looks like they will be this year as well.

He's thoroughly enjoying the beautiful day!

This is how is looks when Amanda comes home from work and her cats come running to greet her.

In the Kitchen

Yesterday Michael asked if he could make breakfast and lunch today. This morning he made scrambled eggs, bacon, toast with jelly, and also served orange juice. I completely forgot to get any pictures but it was delicious. For lunch he fixed Tuna Cheesy Pasta, green beans and applesauce. It was great to get a break from cooking.

On My Mind

I've been thinking a lot about feelings today. I've been thinking about the importance of acknowledging and accepting feelings without having to act on them or be ruled by them. Sometimes it's okay to simply allow them to be there, to pass no judgement - good or bad - on them, and simply wait and see what happens. With time the feelings may change, and that's okay. Sometimes the feelings are a precursor to a need for action and time will show that. That's okay too. But, I guess, I've just really begun to understand the importance of separating myself and my actions from my feelings. Not to deny or invalidate those feelings but simply so I do not make decisions based solely on those feelings. And . . . there you have my random thoughts about feelings.

Quote of the Day
The key is in not spending time, but in investing it.
