Wednesday - Dandelion Fritters and More

Inspiration

Through Christ, we can be sure of this because of God's power. In ourselves we are not able to claim anything for ourselves. The power to do what we do comes from God. he has given us the power to serve under the new covenant. The covenant is not based on the written Law of Moses. It comes from the Holy Spirit. The written Law kills, but the Spirit gives life.
2 Corinthians 3:4-6 (ESrV)

Reading and Learning

Do you know what happened when the Law given? Judgement happened. People perished. And the number of those who perished, the ancient Hebrew records, was 'about three thousand.' And do you know what happened on that Second Shavuot and Pentecost, when the Spirit was given? . . . Salvation happened, eternal life. And the number of those who came to new life, the ancient Greek records, was 'about three thousand.' . . . And so the Apostle Paul writes 'The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.'
~ Day 110

Today Michael learned about the skeletal system, both with a YouTube video and then with this worksheet. We played a game for math, and did reading, history and Bible lessons.

Our letter of the day was Mm for Mommy bird.

Outdoor Fun

This boy sure does the love the baby chicks! And I just thought I should say he is not in the coop but on the far side of it. 😊

During our outside time this morning I had the kids help me pick some dandelions for a special project later. They were so busy and fast that I had a hard time catching them in the act. K nearly jumped right out of my photo!

In the Kitchen

And here is why the kids were picking dandelions for me this morning - Dandelion Fritters. Now, I have to be honest and say there were very mixed reviews on these. Michael and I and one of the preschoolers liked them, the other two most definitely did not! But, in case you want to try them for yourself here is the recipe

3 cups dandelion blossoms, washed
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
salt to taste
oil for frying

Mix together the egg, milk, flour and salt. Dip dandelion blossoms in batter to coat. Fry in hot oil until crispy. Drain on paper towel.
Enjoy.

This batter is so basic that it could be seasoned up several ways. A little sugar and cinnamon could be added, or the fried blossoms could be dipped in honey - or all of the above. I prefer savory food over sweet (most of the time) so I think next time I make these I will play around with some seasoning that would pair well with ranch dressing. I would definitely add a little more salt than I did this morning, add some pepper, and maybe some herbs.

Quote of the Day

What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again.
